Abstract

GLIMPSE ON SOLID LIPID NANOPARTICLES FOR ENHANCED ANTICANCER THERAPY

Julie Talukdar*, Bhanu P. Sahu and S. K. Dash

ABSTRACT

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, second only to heart diseases. The outcomes of chemotherapy show unsatisfactory results, that’s why attempt are taken in the area of nanotechnology, mainly in the solid lipid nanoparticle. This review article mainly focused on general solid lipid nanoparticle, its characterisation and application for cancer therapy. In the area of SLN technology with anticancer drugs, many attempts have been made for improving the activity against cancer. The drug like Paclitaxel, Docetaxel, Tamoxifen, Quercetin, Edelfosine, Cholesteryl Butyrate, Nimesulide are incorporated in SLN, which shows tremendous action towards tumors and other malignancies like colon cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer. It was found that the drug with SLN shows better results for the reducing the chance of cancer, then the other conventional dosage form. This novel anticancer SLNs provide opportunity to treat cancer in a better manner with lower dose and with minimum toxicity.

Keywords: Anticancer drugs; Solid Lipid nanoparticles; Tumors; Enhanced activity; Nanotechnology; Toxicity.
