Every woman faces various physiological and psychological changes during this "change of life" as a part of hormonal derangement. Sometimes such disturbances attain the stage of disease or syndrome called as “Menopausal Syndrome” which is accompanied by various vasomotor, psychological, genital, locomotors and GIT related symptoms. Menopause is defined as absence of Menstrual period for 12 months. There is no reliable lab test to predict when a woman will experience menopause. In India Average age of Menopause is around 48 years but it strikes Indian women as young as 30-35 years. So menopausal health demands special care even in higher priority in Indian scenario. In Ayurveda it is termed as Rajonivritti. The term
Rajonivritti means "End of Artava Pravritti" or Cessation of menstruation as well as ovarian function. Ancient Acharyas supposed it as a normal physiology and not described features associated with this condition. That means Rajonivritti as a diseased condition is not described separately in the classics; Rajonivritti-kala is mentioned by almost all Acharyas.
