STUDIES ON ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITIES AND PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF ROOT EXTRACTS OF TODDALIA ASIATICA LINN

ABSTRACT

The antimicrobial activity of root extracts of Toddalia asiatica linn were examined using Ethyl acetate extract and Methanol extract and investigated against human pathogens like bacteria: Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli. All the root parts showed significant activity against all pathogens, but the ethyl acetate root extract of Toddalia asiatica showed the maximum percentage of zone of inhibition of 45.45% against Escherichia coli, while the methanol extract shows activity against gram positive Bacillus subtilis and gram negative Escherichia coli with the percentage of zone of inhibition of 33.33% and 31.8% respectively when compared to standard Rifampicin for antimicrobial activity.
