ABSTRACT
The present study was carried out to evaluate the pharmacology activity Olax scandens (Roxb.) in plant parts such as bark, root and leaves. The stem bark is used to cure fever and cough. The antipyretic activity of stem bark of Olax scandens (Roxb.) on experimental animals. Brewer’s yeast was used as a pyrogen in Wistar strain albino rats for inducing pyrexia and marked decrease in rectal temperature after 9 h in Brewer’s yeast-induced pyrexia. The antimicrobial activity of Olaxs candens root was determined by agar-well well diffusion and two-fold serial dilution method, respectively. The present work is an
attempt to justify that the method of extraction influences the antimicrobial efficacy of the root extracts. The Olax Scandens leaves contain flavonids and alkaloids which showed anti-proliferative and anti-mitotic activity on allium Cepa root and Yeast, respectively.
