ABSTRACT
Topical drug delivery is an attractive route for local and systemic effect but major disadvantage of topical drug delivery system is dissolution and diffusion of drug along with permeation through stratum corneum is for hydrophilic drugs. So to overcome this limitation, Emulgel has emerged as a promising drug delivery system for hydrophobic drug. It has dual release control system i.e. gel and emulsion. When gels and emulsions are used in combined form is referred as emulgel. In recent years, there has been great interest in the use of novel polymers. A unique aspect of dermatological pharmacology is the direct accessibility of the skin as a target organ for diagnosis and treatment. Gel having various advantages as non-greasy
& favors good patient compliance in field of cosmetology and dermatology. Factors such as gelling agent, oil agent, emulsifiers, and penetration enhancers influence the stability and efficacy of emulgel. Emulgels provide better stability, better drug loading capacity and controlled release of drug with short half-life.
