FREE RADICALS SCAVENGING PROFILES AND ANTIFUNGAL CAPACITY OF ETHYL ACETATE FRACTION (EAF) OF STEM BARK FROM BOSWELLI DALZIELII HUTCH (BURSERACEAE)
Dr. Konaté Kiessoun*, Ouattara Nabèrè, Metuor Dabiré Amana, Alain Souza and
ABSTRACT Background: The present study was designed to evaluate the invitroantioxidant and the antifungal activity of EAF of stem bark fromBoswelli dalzielii Hutch (Burseraceae) against Candida albicans,Candida parapsilosis, Candida tropicalis and Candida krusei strainsand to determine its mode of action and synergistic effect whencombined with the synthetic antifungal nystatin. Methods: Theantioxidant activity of EAF of stem bark from Boswellidalzielii Hutchhas been evaluated using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl inhibitoryactivity and chelation of iron (II) ions. The antifungal activity wasinvestigated using the microplate dilution method and the FractionalInhibitory Concentration Index (FICI) of EAF of stem bark wasevaluated. Results: EAF of stem bark exhibit maximum radicalscavenging activity. As for the antifungal activity, result varied according to microorganism. The results obtained in this antifungal activity were interesting and indicated a synergistic effect between of EAF of stem bark from Boswellidalzielii and the antifungal references such as Nystatin. The results of this study showed that of EAF of stem bark from Boswellidalzieliiin combination with antifungal reference (Nystatin) exhibited antimicrobial effects against candida strains tested. Conclusion: Therefore, this study shows a fungicidal effect on Candida species and a synergistic effect when combined with nystatin and the results supported the utilization of this Burseraceae in treatment of candida infections.
