ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY OF SYZYGIUM CERASOIDEUM LEAF EXTRACT BY CARRAGEENAN INDUCED PAW OEDEMA IN ALBINO RATS

ABSTRACT Syzygium cerasoideum (Myrtaceae) is an Indian medical plant used traditionally for its anti rheumatic, hypoglycemia and rubifacient activities. It is also used in dysentery and the root infusion is applied over painful joints. It is used as pain reliever by Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani practitioners, but lacks scientific validation. The Anti-inflammatory property of the aqueous (AQSC) and methanolic extract (MESC) of Syzygium cerasoideum was evaluated using carrageenan induced paw oedema model in wistar albino rats.
