ABSTRACT
The present study was to develop bilayer floating tablet of Levocetirizine and Terbutaline. Bilayer tablets are composed of two or more layers of different materials compressed together. It makes possible sustained-release preparations with the immediate-release quantity in one layer and the slow release portion in the second. In this research work the immediate release layer is Levocetirizine and floating layer is Terbutaline. Bilayer tablet were directly compressed. The formulation is prepared by using polymers like HPMC and microcrystalline cellulose. The best composition of immediate release and sustained (sustain release) part of the bilayer tablet were A5 and B6 respectively. The selection is based on the best dissolution profile of suited for the release of both the drugs. Also FTIR report does not
show any interaction between drugs and excipients. Bronchial asthma is characterised by hyperresponsiveness of tracheobronchial smooth muscle to a variety of stimuli, resulting in narrowing of air tubes, often accompanied by increased secretion, mucosal edema and mucus plugging. Symptoms include dyspnoea, wheezing, cough and may be limitation of activity. The prepared bilayer tablet used for the treatment of patients with Asthma.
