ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is for introduction of partition co-efficient that actually means to provide an estimate of the degree of drug absorption and distribution within the body (lipid phase/aqueous phase), the partition coefficient (in terms of logP) of the permeant molecules is usually measured. n-octanol and water or a buffered aqueous solution.Partition co-efficient is important physico-chemical properties that are used in predict the diffusion of the drugs. Partition co-efficient is defining as a ratio of un-ionised drugs of distribution between the organic (oil phase) and aqueous phase. Partition coefficient is higher better then its solubility.Partition coefficient is measurement of drugs lipophilicity & indicator of its abilities to cross cell membrane is oil/water partition co-efficient in system such as octanol/water and chloroform /water.Although, Partition co-efficient data does not provides understanding of in vivo absorption, it does provides a means character sizing lipophilicity & hydrophilicity nature of drugs.

Keywords: Organic & Aaqueous phase, Lipophilicity, Hydrophilicity, Partition co-efficient.
