Dr. Ravi Ranjan Prasad*, Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh and Dr. Uma Shankar Chaturvedi

ABSTRACT

Rasausadhis are the back bone of the Ayurvedic therapeutics. These are chiefly based on metals and minerals. Rasausadhis are appreciated for their smaller dosages, quick effectiveness and long durability. Shilajeet is an important herbomineral drug among the maharasa. Describing its importance Charaka has said, “there is hardly any curable disease which cannot be alleviated or cured with the aid of Shilajeet. Further references of Shilajeet can be traced in Sushruta Samhita, Astanga Sangraha, Sharangadhara Madhyama khanda. In present study, Shilajeet has been purified by Triphala kwatha and Bhawit with decoction of Salsaradi Gana dravya mention in rasa tarangni for the treatment of chirodbhut madhumeha. In today‟s modern urbanised life style, every being doesn‟t maintain the daily healthy routine. This is one of the cause of various diseases. Among these Madhumeha Roga is one of them. Madhumeha roga closely resembles Diabetes Mellitus as described in modern medicine. Diabetes is worldwide in distribution and the incidence of diabetes is rising. WHO estimates that more than 220 million people worldwide have diabetes. This number is likely to more than double by 2030 without intervention. In Rasa Tarangani, Shilajeet bhavit with decoction of salsaradi gana is described to work on Madhumeha roga. Aims And Objects To evaluate the Gunkarmatmak prabhav of Shilajatu (Bhawit with decoction of Salsaradi Gana) on Madhumeha Roga with special reference to Diabetes Mellitus.
