Abstract

SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERISATION, ANTIMICROBIAL EVALUATION OF 2-NITRO SCHIFF BASE DERIVATIVE

ABSTRACT

A new series (Z)-N-(2-nitrobenzylidene)pyridine-2-amine was synthesized by the reaction of 2-aminopyridine, 2-nitro benzaldehyde and a drop of acetic acid in the presence of ethanol respectively. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by means of IR, 1H-NMR. The synthesized compounds showed mild antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
