ABSTRACT
The objective of the present study is to isolate natural polysaccharide from the endosperm of seeds of Delonix regia (Bojer ex.Hook.) (Family: Caesalpiniaceae) and evaluate its sustained release property using metoprolol succinate as model drug. Delonix regia endosperm gum and cotyledon gum was isolated and analysed for the chemical properties. Further formulations were developed containing guar gum, endosperm gum and cotyledon gum at various concentrations. Formulations F1 to F3 with low, intermediate and high concentration of guar gum released the total drug before 10 hrs while the formulations F4 to F6 with endosperm gum polymer at low, intermediate and high concentrations showed sustained release. F6 sustained the release upto12 hrs making it better polymer than guar gum at a higher concentration whereas formulations F7 to F9 containing cotyledon gum did not prolong the release, showing the release less than 1hr.
Keywords: Delonix regia, Guargum, Endosperm gum, Sustained release.
