Abstract

REVIEW OF DHATAKI (WOODFORDIA FRUTICOSA (L.) KURZ) IN AYURVEDIC LITERATURE

ABSTRACT

Dhataki (Woodfordia fruticosa (L.)Kurz) is beautiful shrub with red coloured flowers growing on the mountains. It belongs to lytheraceae family. During blooming of this plant, mountains appear beautiful red coloured as they have fire and hence this plant is named as fire flame bush. Adhapushpi, Agnijwala, Bahupushpi, Bahupushpika, Bhramika, Dadimadala, Dahani, Dhawani, Dhataki, Dhatri, Dhatripushpika, Dhatuki, Dhatupushpi, Dhaturanga, Guchcha Pushpa, Sangha Pushpa, Kumuda, Kunjara, Lodhrapushpini, Mada, Madahetu, Madani, Madaniya, Madya Pushpi, Madyawasini, Madhuwasini, Meghawasini, Panshu Bhaksha, Parvati, Parvatiya, Pramadani, Rakt-Pushpi, Ratispruha, Sadhupushpi, Sidhupushpi, Subhakshaka, Subhiksha, Swadupushpi, Tamra Jwala, Tamra Pushpi, Tiwra Jwala, Vanhi Pushpa, Vanhi jwala, Vanhi Pushpi, Vanhi Shikha are its various synonyms fount in ayurvedic texts. Rasa - Katu, Tikta, Kshaya, Madhur, Guna- Ruksa, Laghu, Virya - Sheeta, Vipaka- Katu are properties of this drug. Drug is Raktastambhaka and Pittaghana and used as garbhasthapna, madkrit and Ratknut. It treats various diseases like Atisarrahara, Krimihara, Pravahikahara, Pradarahara, Raktpittahara, Trishnahara, Vranahara, Vishahara, Visarpahara. As stambhana is its main action and it stops the movement. It is used in various diseases like Abhishyanda, Agnidagdha, Amavata, Apachi, Arsha, Ashmari, Asrigdar, Atisara, Balagraha, Balswasthya-raksha, Bhagandar, Dahajwara, Dantapida, Grabha-raksha, Gudadaha, Gulma, Grahni, Karna-roga, Kasa, Kikkis, Krimi, Kunap-shukra, Kushtha, Mukha-roga, Nadivrana, Pittaj-visha, Pandu, Pradara, Prameha, Pravahika, Rajyakshma, Raktapitta, Shoola, Shotha, Shawasa, Stridugdhashodhana, Trishna, Urustambha, Vamana-atiyoga, Vatvyadhi, Vidradhi, Visarpa, Vrana, Yonivyapada.
