AN OVERVIEW OF SMART CHARACTERISTICS OF SMART POLYMERS

ABSTRACT

Importance of smart polymers is raising day by day as these polymers under go large reversible, physical or chemical changes in response to small changes in environment so, they are also known as “stimuli responsive polymers” or intelligent polymers or environmentally sensitive polymers. The characteristic feature that actually makes this polymers smart is their ability to respond to very slight changes in the surrounding environment. usually slight changes in the environment are sufficient to induced large changes in the polymer properties. The non linear response of smart polymer is what makes them so unique and effective. This review focus on method of preparation, classification and applications of smart polymers with their examples.
