Abstract

CHEMICAL-QUANTUM ANALYSIS OF THE AGGRESSIVENESS OF GLUCOSE AND ITS APPEASEMENT WITH ATP INSIDE THE CELL, AND WATER AS AN EXCELLENT ANTIOXIDANT

Manuel González-Pérez*

ABSTRACT

Glucose (GLU) is the molecule that provides energy for all our biological functions. Insulin controls the GLU in the bloodstream until it is introduced into the cell. The objective of this work was to investigate which biochemical substance controls glucose within the cell. We used the Parametric Semi-empirical Quantum Method 3 (SE-PM3) for Calculations of Prohibited Band or Bandgap (BG), Electrostatic Potential (EP) and Electronic Transfer Coefficient (ETC). The results show that the Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) molecule is responsible for controlling the biochemical aggressiveness of glucose within the cell. Also, it was found that water provides electrons to all substances involved in step 1 of glycolysis. Another finding is that oxygen provides the necessary electrons to the water. In conclusion, ATP lowers the biochemical aggressiveness of glucose within the cell. Water works as an excellent antioxidant at least in step 1 of glycolysis and that oxygen, in turn, is an excellent antioxidant of water.
