PURA MARUTHUVA MURAIGAL (EXTERNAL THERAPIES AND METHODS) IN SIDDHA SYSTEM - A REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Siddha system of medicine is one of the traditional systems which focus on both internal and external medicines same as like Ayurveda for the treatment of various ailments. There are 32 types of classified Pura maruthuva Muraigal (Siddha therapies and external application methods) mentioned in ancient Siddha Literatures. But awareness of Siddha External therapies is not much familiar as compared to Ayurvedic Pancha Karma Therapies. Ayurveda got attention and reached globally only because of their Pancha Karma Therapies. In Siddha system, a lot of unique Therapies like Varmam, Thokkanam, Podi Thimiral, Kombu kattal etc are available. Varmam is a unique therapy used for all types of Vatha diseases from local pain to neuro muscular diseases. In this article, we explain briefly about the importance of Siddha Therapies with suitable examples.
