BILVA (AEGLE MARMELOS L.CORREA) - A REVIEW FROM ANCIENT LITERATURE.

ABSTRACT Bilva is very well known plant since pre historic period. In India it has mythological as well as medicinal value. All part of this plant (Leaves, Fruit, Root, and Bark) have medicinal values. Bilva fruit is known as auspisious fruit and is also included in Indian diet. Bilva root is one of the main content of Dashamoola which is very widely used drug formulation in Ayurveda. Sinces Bilva has high therapeutic value many reaserch work is also going on Bilva. Traditionally Bilva is used for Diarrohea, Amoebic dysentery, Haemorroids, Anaemia and all vata-kaphaja disorders etc. In this review article comprehensive review of Bilva from ancient literature (Vedic grantha, Samhita Grantha and Nighantu Grantha) is taken.
