Shikha Mandloi, Renu Mishra*, Nishi Yadav and Sushma Yadav
ABSTRACT A study on antibacterial activity of Mentha spicata was conducted against opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, isolated from sputum samples of T.B. negative patients. The positive control was ciprofloxacin 10mg/ml, and negative control was ethanol. The results indicate ethanol to be effective at 100mg/ml concentration. Phytochemical analysis revealed presence of flavonoid component. On HPLC it was identified to be quercetin. From this study it is concluded that Mentha spicata is effective against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Keywords: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Lamiaceae, Antibacterial activity, Mentha spicata.
