Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINED RELEASE MICROSPHERES OF HALOPERIDOL USING DIFFERENT POLYMERS

Neha Yadav*, Dr. Rupa Mazumder and Swarupanjali Padhi

ABSTRACT

The objective of the research work is to develop sustained release microspheres of haloperidol using different polymer HPMC and Chitosan. Haloperidol is antipsychotic drugs trend to block D2 receptors in the dopamine pathways of the brain. The microspheres can be prepared by using one of the several techniques but choice of the technique mainly depends on the nature of the polymer used, the drug and the duration of the therapy. In the present work, a sustained release haloperidol microspheres synthesized by solvent evaporation method in which different ratios of haloperidol and polymers is taken. The formulation of sustained release haloperidol microspheres are determined by optical microscopic method and evaluated by using FT-IR spectroscopy. The particle size of haloperidol microspheres were calculated, the size of particle was found to increase with increasing concentration of polymers. The present study shows a relatively simple method to design and develop sustained release haloperidol microspheres drug delivery system. The final formulation followed the zero order kinetics which met the condition of sustained release drug delivery system.
