EFFECT OF NIGELLA SATIVA L. ON LIVER ENZYMES AND KIDNEY MORPHOLOGY ON D-GALN INDUCED TOXICITY IN RATS

ABSTRACT

The present work has been carried out to study the effect of alcoholic extract of Nigella sativa L. seeds (NS) on liver enzymes and kidney cells in rats intoxicated with D-Galactosamine(D-GalN). Twenty four adult wistar albino rats were divided into four groups viz Control, DGalatosamine induced hepatotoxicity, Nigella sativa alcoholic extract (NSE) treated and Nigella Sativa alcoholic extract pretreatment prior to the administration of D-Galactosamine. After treatment, the rats were sacrificed, blood samples were collected for determination of Serum Aspartate transaminase (AST), Alanine trasnaminase (ALT) and Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and the kidneys were isolated for histopathological study.
