Abstract

ETIOPATHOLOGICAL REVIEW OF MEDOROGA (W.S.R. TO DYSLIPDEMIA) IN AYURVEDA LITERATURE

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda, an Indian Science of life has no limitations of race, climate, and country. Its door is always open to all true knowledge from any source. The whole philosophy of Ayurveda is based on achieving and prompting health the equilibrium of various structural and functional unit of body. Life styles of population across the world have been changed dramatically to fast foods and sedentary habits. These changes fueled the epidemic of obesity, dyslipidemia and coronary artery disease. In Ayurveda classics there is no such term like dyslipidemia is described but the property of such lipids is closely resemble with the properties of sneha dravya like medo dhatu in Ayurveda. There are various etiological factors like excessive food intake, day sleep, sedentary life style, excessive happy state of mind and hereditary involvement leads to medoroga (Dyslipidemia). In medoroga (Dyslipidemia) two types of meda vriddhi takes places, first one is Baddha meda vriddhi which can be considered as Adiposity and second one is Abaddha meda vriddhi which is the increase of mobile or poshaka meda dhatu. This state can be considered as increased serum lipid levels in the blood as the adipose tissue is also composed of triglyceride.
