Abstract

SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERISATION, ANTIMICROBIAL EVALUATION OF PHENOLIC SCHIFF BASE DERIVATIVE

ABSTRACT

A new series (Z)-2-(pyridine-2-ylimino)methyl phenol derivative was synthesized by the reaction of 2-aminopyridine, 2-Hydroxybenzaldehyde and a drop of acetic acid in the presence of ethanol respectively. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by means of IR, 1H-NMR. The synthesized compounds showed mild antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.
