COMPARATIVE EVALUATION OF MEMORY ENHANCING PROPERTIES OF ORAL AND TRANS-CRANIAL POLYPHYTO FORMULATION, A NATURAL REMEDY

ABSTRACT
Background: In the Ayurveda, diseases associated with the brain treated with traditional therapy like sirodhara show that a drug could be transcranially delivered and targeted to the brain through the scalp. Aim: The aim of present study was to comparing the effectiveness of the medhya herbal formulations for its nootropic effect among two different drug delivery systems, like oral administration and transcranial route application. Materials and methods: The medhya formulation FM25 (50 and 100 mg/kg) and PO25, a polyphyto oil (10 mg/kg); compose of Lactuca sativa (30%), Juglans regia (10%), Curcubita pepo (25%), Piper nigrum (20%), Vigna mungo (15%) on learning and memory was studied using different animal model in rat comparing with standard drug Bacopa monnieri. Results: FM25 (oral) and PO25 (TCA) showed significant (p<0.01) action as compared with the control per oral as well as transcranial delivery; which may be helpful in process of learning. Conclusion: The present study suggest that polyphyto formulation FM25 and transcranial preparation PO25 found to be safe and effective in enhancing learning and memory properties.
