ABSTRACT

Popularity of medicinal plants and its derivative medical products is increasing worldwide for control and management of several diseases and disorders. For example different parts of Anonna squamos L, Calotropis procera R Br and Piper betel L are traditionally used for control and management of various diseases including pain, cancer and various types of infectious diseases. They were studied elaborately for their organic macro and micronutrient. However less emphasis was given to their inorganic counterpart or trace elements which are important in different perspectives. So to investigate the presence and amount of such inorganic micronutrients in the ehthanolic extracts of the leaves of Anonna squamos L, Calotropis procera R Br and Piper betel L with folklore reputation, were undertaken in the present work. For this purpose elemental analysis was carried out by an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS). The elements K, Ca, Fe, Zn, Mg and Cu were identified in all the extracts in variable and some were in considerable amounts. The analysis also revealed that content of K was maximum in all the extracts.

Keywords: Micronutrients, Trace elements, Anonna squamosa, Calotropis procera, Piper betel, Detection and quantification.
