Abstract

MECHANISTIC & SPECTRAL INVESTIGATION OF OXIDATION OF DIETHYL MALONATE BY MORPHOLINIUM CHLOROCHROMATE

ABSTRACT

Morpholinium chlorochromate (MCC) is easily synthesized by reacting morpholine to an aqueous solution of CrO3 and HCl. The kinetics of oxidation of diethyl malonate by morpholinium chlorochromate has been Studied Spectrophotometrically in aqueous acetic acid medium. The reaction were studied in the temperature range 292-318K.The reaction is first order with respect to both diethyl malonate and morpholinium chlorochromate. The activation parameters for the slow step were computed and calculated. Effect of ionic strength and dielectric constant of medium has also been reported. A suitable mechanism has been proposed.
