RE-USABLE NANO FE3O4 CATALYSED FOR HIGH YIELD SYNTHESIS OF 1,2-DISUBSTITUTED BENZIMIDAZOLE DERIVATIVES IN ETHANOL

ABSTRACT
Re-usable nano Fe3O4 catalyzes efficiently, the condensation of o-phenylenediamine with various aldehydes in solution condition to afford the corresponding 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles derivatives in good to excellent yields (<99%). The catalyst was magnetically separated and reused three times without significant loss of catalytic activity. Mild reaction conditions, clean reaction media, simple workup and easy purification are advantages of this methodology. All the title compounds were confirmed from their elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and Mass Spectral data.
