ABSTRACT

Objectives: correlation between total Sialic Acid with, MDA and hs-CRP was investigated in Patients of non-Smoker and non-diabetic with extention of CAD. Methods: In this study, Serum total Sialic Acid, MDA and hs-CRP levels were determined in 160 patients with coronary artery disease. Patients including of 40 subjects with no vessel disease, 40 subjects with single vessel disease, 40 subjects with double vessel disease, and 40 subjects with triple vessel disease, mean age 59 years old, coordinated with control groups 20 subjects with mean age 57 years old.The mentioned parameters above, measured by ELISA, Turbidimetry and Spectrophotometry methods. Results: Sialic Acid, Malondialdehyde and hs-CRP serum levels were significantly higher than in patient groups in comprised with control group. There is strong positive correlation between TSA and hs-CRP (P=0.01). Also correlation between TSA and MDA are significant. Conclusions: our study suggest that ROS lead to release TSA, which are one of the most susceptible targets of ROS, TSA is related markers of lipid and protein oxidation and inflammation that may play a role in the development of CAD.

Keywords: Coronary artery disease, Malondialdehyde, hs-CRP, Sialic Acid.
