ABSTRACT
Tranexamic acid is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine that exerts its antifibrinolytic effect by blocking lysine-binding sites on plasminogen molecules. This inhibits the interaction of plasminogen and the heavy chain of plasmin with lysine residues on the surface of fibrin. A simple, rapid and specific method for analysis of mefenamic acid in bulk and tablet dosage form by a sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography is described. The tranexamic acid peak was developed on a C8 column to provide optimum resolution with a short time analysis a mobile phase of acetonitrile: water. The limit of quantitation and limit of detection of Tranexamic acid in tablet was 0.059334μg/ml and0.01958μg/ml at 418 nm. The method was linear over the range of 3-9μg/ml with r2 of 0.999667.
