NEBULOUS KIDNEY – AN UNUSUAL COMPLICATION OF PELVI URETERIC JUNCTION OBSTRUCTION

ABSTRACT

Secondary stones in the hydronephrotic kidney due to Pelvi ureteric junction obstruction are fairly a frequent phenomenon. But amorphous calcifications in the hydronephrotic kidney in the absence of infection, giving a nebulous or foggy appearance to the Kidney is a very rare phenomenon and no case has been reported so far in the literature. Here we report a 18 year old girl who presented with recurrent abdominal pain and fuzzy calcification in the left renal area on plain X-ray. Initially labeled as Renal Tuberculosis, further investigations took us by complete surprise. Patient underwent evaluation for Tuberculosis, which turned out to be negative. CT Scan was done, which revealed Left pelvi ureteric junction obstruction with calcifications in the hydronephrotic space rather than in the kidney. Definitive treatment was done with open exploration.
