ABSTRACT

Two simple, precise, accurate and cost effective UV spectrophotometric methods are developed for the estimation of levofloxacin and cefpodoxime proxetil from its combined tablet dosage form by absorption ratio method and multicomponent mode method. Both the method utilized methanol as solvent. Method – I is absorption ratio method in which wavelength selected wavelength selected were 295.0 nm (λmax of levofloxacin) and 278 nm (isosbestic point) for the analysis. Method – II is multicomponent mode method in which wavelengths selected for quantitation are 295 nm and 234 nm for levofloxacin and cefpodoxime proxetil respectively, which are the λmax of both the drugs. In both the methods linearity for detector response was observed in the concentration range of 5-30 μg/ml with correlation coefficient as 0.999 for both the drugs respectively. Percent recovery for both the drugs is found to be around 99.98 %. Both the developed UV spectrophotometric methods were validated according to ICH guidelines with respect to accuracy, precision, ruggedness, specificity, LOD and LOQ. Both the proposed methods can be implemented for routine analysis of levofloxacin and cefpodoxime proxetil from its combined tablet dosage forms.

Keywords: Levofloxacin, Cefpodoxime Proxetil, UV Spectroscopy, absorption ratio method and multicomponent mode method.
