IMPACT OF DEVELOPED COUNSELING PACKAGE ON JUVENILE DIABETIC PATIENTS

ABSTRACT
The study on impact of developed counseling package on juvenile diabetic patients in the management of diabetes was conducted in Bikaner city. Forty Five insulin dependent diabetic subjects were selected from Diabetic Care & Research Centre of PBM and associated group of hospitals, Bikaner (Raj). A counseling package (booklet, folder, slides) was developed on dietary management for the Juvenile Diabetes for the effective management of diabetes. Experts evaluated different aids of self developed training package including folder, booklet and slides on the basis of five points rating scales. These rating scales were judged between very poor to very good on the basis of clarity of visual, subject matter coverage, organization and continuity
of presentation etc. Overall mean weighted score of the folder and booklet was 4.70 and 4.68, which shows that the folder and booklet were judged between good to very good. Slide was also found in category of very good. After the exposure of counseling package a significant improvement was found in knowledge of the respondents as the pre test scores that increased from 22.22 to 76.66 per cent along with 54.44 per cent gain in knowledge. There were also a significant increase (P<0.01) in the knowledge, attitude and practice score obtained by the subjects. Thus study concludes that nutrition counseling can be effective measure for bringing about favorable and significant changes in knowledge and practice of juvenile diabetic subjects.
