UNILATERAL ANISOCORIA POST ADENOTONSILLECTOMY FOLLOWING INTRANASAL PHENYLEPHRINE ADMINISTRATION
Lernik Sarkissian*, Lala Sarkissian, SueEllen Holmes, Antigoni Koutantos and Stuart Mackay
ABSTRACT Anisocoria can be a sign of sinister pathology affecting the central and peripheral nervous system. Few cases have been discussed in the literature where anisocoria has occurred post induction of anaesthesia. We discuss a case of co-phenylcaine induced anisocoria during a routine case of adenotonsillectomy where retrograde flow of co-phenylcaine occurred via the nasolacrimal duct. Thus, awareness of such rare complications from mydriatic agents, coupled with a thorough history and neurological examination whilst considering possible causes from hospital procedures can help prevent unnecessary and costly investigation. Keywords: Anisocoria, mydriasis, pupil dilatation, topical anaesthetic. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
