ABSTRACT
Alfuzosin is selective α1-Adrenergic blocker indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic heperplasia. The present investigation was aimed to formulate and evaluate gastro retentive drug delivery system of Alfuzosin hydrochloride. Gastro retentive Alfuzosin hydrochloride (10 mg) tablet was prepared by direct compression method. The tablets were evaluated for in vitro release profile and various evaluation parameters. The floating lag time of Alfuzosin hydrochloride floating tablets were within the prescribed limit (<3 minutes). Formulation A8 (45 % HPMC K4 M, 12% EC) was selected as an optimum formulation as it shows more similarity in dissolution profile with marketed product (Similarity factor, f2= 83.05). From the present investigation it can be concluded that the gastro retentive Alfuzosin hydrochloride tablet is used to improve the
absorption of drug and to reduce the frequency of administration with improved patient compliance.
