Abstract

REVIEW: DEPRESSION A MAJOR PSYCHOTIC ILLNESS

ABSTRACT

Due to the clinical and etiological heterogeneity of depression disorder, it has been difficult to elucidate its pathophysiology. Current findings suggest with the most valid empirical foundation and the highest clinical relevance are reviewed with respect to their strengths and weaknesses for treatment of depression. The selected theories are based on studies investigating psychosocial stress and stress hormones, neurotransmitters such as serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine, glutamate and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), neurocircuitry, neurotrophic in depression. Neurochemicals imbalances namely norepinephrine and serotonin, are thought to underline depression most. This view is supported by clinical evidence. Antidepressant treatments, including psychological and biological approaches, should be tailored for individual patients and disease states. Adjoin with side effect, complete relieve is difficult. Here complete analysis is also to be required so correlating disease with basic functional loss of brain.
