Abstract

ANTIDIABETIC, HYPOLIPIDEMIC AND HISTOPATHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF ETHANOLIC LEAVES EXTRACT OF HIBISCUS ROSA-SINENSIS IN ALLOXAN MONO HYDRATE INDUCED DIABETIC RATS

ABSTRACT

The present study was to evaluate the Anti diabetic, Hypo lipidemic and histopathological studies of ethanolic leaves extract of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis in Alloxan mono hydrate induced diabetic wistar rat by administering graded oral doses (350 and 700 mg/kg body weight) for 14 days. The extract showed significant anti diabetic activity with significant improvement in body weight. Daily oral treatment with the extract for 14 days also resulted in significant reduction in serum cholesterol and triglycerides. HDL-cholesterol level was found to be improved as compared to diabetic control group.
