ESTIMATION OF FENOFIBRIC ACID IN BULK AND TABLET DOSAGE FORM BY USE OF PLANAR CHROMATOGRAPHY

ABSTRACT

A simple, rapid, and reliable HPTLC method has been carried out for determination of Fenofibric acid in tablets. Identification and determination were performed on 20 cm × 10 cm aluminium coated silica gel 60 F254 TLC plates, previously washed with chloroform and methanol 8.5:1.5(v/v) as mobile phase. Detection was performed at 254nm.Calibration plots were linear in the range 100 – 500 ng for fenofibric acid with a correlation coefficients, r being 0.9935.The percentage recovery was found to lie between 99 to 102%. The method could be used for determination of the compound in commercial pharmaceutical dosage forms. The method is simple, reproducible, and accurate and is a more effective option than other chromatographic techniques in routine quality control.
