TRISUTRA SIDDHANTA IN CHARAKA SAMHITA: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW
Dr. Pranjali Sultan*
ABSTRACT Background: Trisutra Siddhanta is one of the fundamental doctrines of Ayurveda described in Charaka Samhita. It comprises three essential principles—Hetu (etiology), Linga (clinical features), and Aushadha (therapeutics)—which form the scientific basis for understanding disease causation, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. These principles represent the logical sequence of clinical reasoning and continue to guide Ayurvedic practice. Objective: To critically review the concept of Trisutra Siddhanta as described in Charaka Samhita and evaluate its relevance in contemporary Ayurvedic clinical practice. Materials and Methods: This narrative review is based on a comprehensive study of classical Ayurvedic literature, primarily Charaka Samhita with Chakrapani's Ayurveda Dipika commentary, supported by standard Ayurvedic textbooks and relevant peer-reviewed publications from indexed journals. Results: The review demonstrates that Trisutra Siddhanta provides a comprehensive framework for understanding diseases through their causative factors, clinical manifestations, and therapeutic measures. The concepts are applicable to preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare and show parallels with modern approaches to etiology, diagnosis, and treatment. Conclusion: Trisutra Siddhanta remains one of the most significant doctrines of Ayurveda. Its holistic and patient-centred approach enhances clinical decision-making and supports evidence-based Ayurvedic practice. Further interdisciplinary research may strengthen its integration into modern healthcare. Keywords: Trisutra Siddhanta, Charaka Samhita, Hetu, Linga, Aushadha, Ayurveda, Diagnosis, Therapeutics.
