ABSTRACT

Pain is one of the most common symptoms associated with various acute and chronic conditions. Aspirin is a widely used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that produces analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects mainly through inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymes and subsequent reduction of prostaglandin synthesis. Caffeine, a naturally occurring methylxanthine, possesses central nervous system stimulant properties and has been reported to enhance the analgesic effects of several analgesic drugs. The present study is designed to evaluate the potential of caffeine to enhance the analgesic activity of aspirin. The study involves the assessment of the analgesic effect of aspirin alone and in combination with caffeine using suitable experimental methods. The analgesic responses obtained from the treatment groups will be compared with the control group to determine whether the combination produces enhanced analgesic activity. The study may provide useful information regarding the analgesic-sparing potential of caffeine and its possible role as an adjuvant to aspirin therapy. The findings could contribute to a better understanding of combination analgesic therapy and may provide a basis for further studies on the efficacy and safety of aspirin-caffeine combinations.[1]
