FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF HERBAL LIP BALM
Mr. Niraj Shivaji Dorage*, Ms. Piryanka S. Devhare, Dr. Nitin M. Gawai
ABSTRACT Herbal lip balms are topical cosmetic formulations designed to protect, moisturize, and maintain the softness of the lips. The thin and delicate structure of the lips makes them more susceptible to dryness, cracking and environmental damage. Herbal ingredients are increasingly incorporated into lip-care products because of their potential moisturizing, soothing, antioxidant and protective properties. A typical herbal lip balm contains a combination of natural waxes, oils, butters and herbal ingredients to provide a protective layer over the lips and reduce moisture loss. Commonly used ingredients include beeswax, cocoa butter, and castor oil, almond oil, vitamin E, rose oil, honey and orange peel powder. The project report on herbal lip balm specifically includes these ingredients and evaluates the prepared formulation through appropriate quality and performance parameters. This review discusses theselection of herbal ingredients, formulation approaches, and functions of individual excipients, methods of preparation, evaluation parameters, stability considerations and potential applications of herbal lip balms. The development of herbal lip balms provides an opportunity to combine cosmetic lip protection with the beneficial properties of naturally derived ingredients. Keywords: Herbal lip balm, Lip care, Herbal cosmetics, Beeswax, Cocoa butter, Castor oil, Almond oil, Vitamin E, Rose oil, Honey, Orange peel powder, Moisturizing, Antioxidant activity, Natural ingredients, Cosmetic formulation.
