ABSTRACT AD -Alzheimer's disease- is the leading cause of dementia with 60 -70 percent of all cases occurring world-wide, affecting an enormous number of individuals. It has a high economic burden on the social and the public health systems. AD is progressive in nature, and manifests itself by cognitive impairment, impaired memory and problems in day-to-day functioning. With the increase in disease incidence the urgent demand is to understand its underlying pathophysiology, improve diagnostic methods and come up with therapeutic strategies.
