Abstract

Inkal Prajapati*, Prof. (Vd.) Mahesh Chand Gupta, Dr. Rachana Gandhi

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Bhaishjyakaala, the appropriate time of drug administration, is an important therapeutic principle of Ayurveda. The therapeutic action of a medicine may vary according to its temporal relationship with Ahara, Agni and the functional state of Vata. Acharya Charaka mentioned in Purishakathinya, Go-Ghrita with Saindhava Lavana is given in Madhyabhaktakaala, provides a rationale for evaluating the clinical importance of Bhaishjyakaala. Methods: An open-label randomized parallel-group clinical trial was conducted at Government Ayurved College and Hospital, Vadodara. Thirty-four subjects were enrolled, of whom 30 completed the study. Fifteen subjects in Group A received Go-Ghrita 30 ml with Saindhava Lavana 500 mg at Madhyabhaktakaala, while 15 subjects in Group B received the identical intervention at Pragbhaktakaala. Treatment was administered orally for 7 days followed by 7 days of follow-up. Clinical changes inPurishakathinya, Chirat Pravrutti, Krucchena Pravrutti and associated symptoms were evaluated using graded symptom scores. Result: Group A showed comparatively more clinical improvement than Group B. Conclusion: Administration of the same formulation at Madhyabhaktakaala produced superior clinical outcomes compared with Pragbhaktakaala. The findings provide clinical evidence supporting Bhaishjyakaala as an important determinant of therapeutic efficacy in Ayurveda.

Keywords: Bhaishjyakaala, Purishakathinya, Samana Vayu.
