CHEMOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF CALLISTEMON OIL COMPONENTS
Naveen Kumar Lamyan, Km Swati Nayak, Mohd. Nadir, K. Ashok Kumar*, Bheemachari
ABSTRACT The genus Callistemon, known for its aromatic and therapeutic properties, shows notable variation in essential oil composition among species and regions. This study explored and compared volatile oil profiles of Callistemon species from various global sources, including C. lanceolatus collected in Roorkee, Uttarakhand (India), through advanced chemometric methods. Major components such as 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), α-pinene, α-terpineol, and limonene were analysed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA). PCA revealed clear distinctions among samples, grouping them into chemotypes based on dominant constituents. The first two principal components explained most of the variance, highlighting the influence of eucalyptol and α-pinene in species differentiation. HCA supported this clustering by linking samples based on phytochemical profiles and botanical origin. Interestingly, the Roorkee sample showed close similarity to eucalyptol-dominant chemotypes from Brazil, Ethiopia, and Egypt. These findings reflect the impact of geography on essential oil composition and contribute to chemotaxonomic and industrial research. Keywords: Callistemon species, Volatile oils, Essential oil composition, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA). [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
