ABSTRACT

Acne vulgaris, a prevalent chronic skin disorder, is largely influenced by Cutibacterium acnes, which aids in skin homeostasis. The study compares traditional anti-acne treatments like clindamycin and ciprofloxacin with a plant extract from Manilkara zapota peel. Antibacterial activity of the extract was evaluated using ciprofloxacin as a standard, along with in silico studies via the CB dock tool. The antimicrobial test utilized Muller-Hinton agar and the agar disk diffusion method for measuring the zone of inhibition. Both Cutibacterium avidum and Cutibacterium acnes were tested, with the plant extract prepared using ethanol. Molecular docking analysis against Cutibacterium lipase indicated favourable binding. The research concludes that Manilkara zapota peel exhibits significant anti-acne properties, suggesting its potential in anti-acne formulations.

Keywords: Cuti bacterium acne, clindamycin, ciprofloxacin, Muller Hinton, Manilkara zapota peel, CB dock 3.
