KAMPILLAKADI TAILA IN DUSHTA- VRANA - A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

The destruction or break or rupture or discontinuity of body tissue or a part of body, is called Vrana. Dushta-vrana, or non-healing ulcers, are a prevalent issue in the current period, often caused by trauma or pathologic factors, resulting in long term suffering for the patient.[1] In Ayurvedic classic, many herbal preparations in the form of topical application have been described for Shodhana and Ropana of Dushta-Vrana. In Shasti Upakrama, Acharya Sushruta has mentioned several preparations such as Kashaya, Varti, Kalka, Sarpi, Raskriya, Avachurnan and Taila to be used for Shodhana and Ropana of Vrana, which includes medicated oils such as Kampillakadi Taila. Acharya Sushruta has explained Shasti Upakrama (sixty types of procedures) for the management of Vrana. Vrana-vasti is one amongst the Shasthi Upkarma. It refers to pooling of a layer of oil directly over the wound.[2] In the present case study, Kampillakadi Taila was used for Vrana-vasti, in Dushta-Vrana, ensuring complete healing by virtue of its Shodhan and Ropana characteristics.
