Abstract

CONCEPTUAL EVALUATION OF BHAISHJYAKAALA IN THE TREATMENT OF SAPTA DHATU DUSHTI

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Bhaishjyakaala denotes the appropriate time of drug administration and is considered an important factor influencing therapeutic efficacy in Ayurveda. Its selection depends on the relation of medicine to food, the status of digestion, Dosha predominance and the functional activity of Vata. Sapta Dhatu refers to the seven fundamental body tissues: Rasa, Rakta, Mamsa, Meda, Asthi, Majja and Shukra. They support the structure, nourishment, strength and normal functioning of the body. Bhaishjyakaala influences Sapta Dhatu by optimizing Agni, medicine digestion, absorption, circulation and tissue-specific action, thereby supporting proper Dhatu nourishment and correction of Dhatu Dushti. Methods: A conceptual review of classical Ayurvedic references concerning Bhaishjyakaala, Agni, Dhatu Karma, Dhatu circulation and Vata subtypes was undertaken to interpret their relevance in Sapta Dhatu Dushti. Results: Pratah, Adhobhakta and Antarabhakta Kaala may be beneficial in Rasa and Rakta Dushti. Pragbhakta, Adhobhakta and Nisha Kaala may be selected in Mamsa and Meda disorders according to Karshana or Brumhana needs. Pratah Kaala may be useful in Asthi and Majja Dushti, while Grasa and Pratah Kaala may support Shukra-related treatment. Discussion: Rational selection of Bhaishjyakaala may enhance drug processing, distribution and Dhatu-specific action. Clinical studies are needed to validate these conceptual associations in contemporary Ayurvedic clinical practice.
