LORATADINE ORO-DISPERSIBLE TABLETS: FORMULATION DEVELOPMENT, CHARACTERIZATION, AND RECENT ADVANCES—A REVIEW

ABSTRACT The development of Oro dispersible tablets (ODTs) has revolutionized patient-centric drug delivery, especially for paediatrics and geriatric populations with swallowing difficulties. Loratadine, a second-generation antihistamine used for allergic conditions, suffers from poor water solubility and delayed onset following conventional oral administration. The development of loratadine ODTs can enhance patient compliance, onset of action, and therapeutic efficacy. This review focuses on formulation strategies, characterization techniques, excipient selection, challenges, and future perspectives in the development of loratadine ODTs. Critical literature on disintegration mechanisms, manufacturability, and biopharmaceutical performance is discussed, providing an integrated framework for researchers and formulators.
