Dr. Bharti Pandey*, Dr. Rita Marwaha, Pankaj Gupta, Dr. Nisha Bhalerao

ABSTRACT

Ankle sprain is a frequent musculoskeletal injury that commonly presents with pain, swelling, and limited mobility, affecting routine activities and quality of life. Conventional management strategies include rest, immobilization, and pharmacological interventions, which may not always provide optimal relief or functional recovery. Marma Chikitsa, an Ayurvedic therapeutic approach focusing on stimulation of vital energy points (Marma), has been suggested as a complementary method for pain relief and rehabilitation. This case study evaluates the efficacy of Marma Chikitsa in pain management and functional improvement in a 48-year-old female patient with an ankle sprain. The patient presented with acute pain, swelling, and difficulty bearing weight following a twisting injury to the right ankle. A structured Marma Chikitsa protocol was administered targeting specific lower limb Marma points over a period of seven consecutive days. No analgesic or anti-inflammatory medications were prescribed concurrently. This case study highlights the potential of Marma Chikitsa as a non-invasive, effective complementary therapy for pain management and functional recovery in ankle sprain.
