Abstract

MEDHYA RASAYANA WSR TO JATAMANSI FOR BUDDI, SMRITI & MEDHA

*Dr. Bishnupriya Mohanty, Jiffy Fernandes

ABSTRACT

Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi DC.) is a well-known Ayurvedic drug described for its Medhya (nootropic) and Manas-balancing properties. In the present era of increasing mental stress, anxiety disorders, and cognitive decline, there is a growing need to explore safe and effective natural remedies. This study aims to evaluate the role of Jatamansi in enhancing Buddhi (intellect), Smriti (memory), and Manas (mental health) through an integrative approach combining classical Ayurvedic references and modern scientific evidence. The review highlights its pharmacological actions such as neuroprotection, anxiolytic, antidepressant, and antioxidant effects, correlating them with Ayurvedic concepts of Medhya Rasayana. The findings suggest that Jatamansi holds significant potential as a safe, effective, and accessible Medhya Rasayana drug in contemporary clinical and preventive healthcare.

Keywords: Jatamansi, Nardostachys jatamansi, Medhya Rasayana, Buddhi, Smriti, Manas, Nootropic, Ayurveda, Cognitive Enhancement, Anxiolytic, Nidrajanana.
