Abstract

LAGHUPANCHAMULA: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF ITS PHARMACOLOGICAL AND THERAPEUTIC SIGNIFICANCE

Dr. Rohit Kumar Patel*, Dr. Mahendra

ABSTRACT

Laghupanchamula is a well-known formulation in Ayurvedic medicine, consisting of five key medicinal plants: Brihati (Solanum indicum), Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum), Shaliparni (Desmodium gangeticum), Prishnaparni (Uraria picta), and Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris). These herbs have a long history of use due to their various therapeutic benefits, which include anti-inflammatory, analgesic, diuretic, and respiratory effects. This review seeks to provide a detailed examination of the phytochemical composition, pharmacological properties, and clinical uses of Laghupanchamula, drawing information from both traditional Ayurvedic texts and contemporary scientific studies. The bioactive compounds found in these plants play a crucial role in their effectiveness for treating respiratory issues, urinary disorders, inflammatory conditions, and musculoskeletal pain.Recent research has confirmed traditional practices by identifying the presence of active compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and sterols, all of which demonstrate significant pharmacological activities. Moreover, the synergistic effects of these five herbs enhance their therapeutic potential, positioning Laghupanchamula as a significant formulation within integrative medicine. By connecting ancient knowledge with present-day research, this article highlights the importance of Laghupanchamula in today’s healthcare landscape and advocates for additional studies to fully investigate its medicinal capabilities.
