ABSTRACT

Clitoria ternatea L. (Fabaceae), commonly known as butterfly pea or Aparajita, is a well-known medicinal plant widely distributed in tropical regions. It is rich in bioactive constituents such as flavonoids, anthocyanins, phenolic compounds, and tannins, which exhibit potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and skin-protective properties. These properties make it a promising natural ingredient for cosmetic and cosmeceutical applications. The present research focuses on the formulation and evaluation of a hydrogel face mask containing Clitoria ternatea extract for achieving a complete rejuvenation effect. The hydrogel-based formulation was prepared using suitable polymers such as Carbopol and sodium alginate along with excipients like glycerine, aloe vera gel, and preservatives to enhance stability and effectiveness. The hydrogel system provides better hydration, improved adhesion, and controlled release of active constituents into the skin. The preparedformulations were evaluated for various physicochemical parameters including pH, thickness, swelling index, tensile strength, and organoleptic properties. Additionally, skin irritation studies were performed to assess safety and efficacy. Among the formulations, F3 was found to be the most stable and effective, showing significant hydrating, soothing, anti-aging, and skin-brightening effects. The results indicate that the formulated hydrogel face mask possesses excellent rejuvenating potential due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Thus, Clitoria ternatea hydrogel mask can be considered a safe and effective herbal formulation for improving skin health and achieving complete skin rejuvenation. Further studies are recommended to explore its clinical applications and long-term benefits.
